Simple Fix for SEO Title Tag Wordpress Plugin by Stephan Spencer on Wordpress 2.7

If you upgraded to Wordpress 2.7. And you are also using the SEO Title Tag plugin by Stephan Spencer, you may notice that the tabs on the “thin slicing” view (The view where you enter all the title tags of various pages on a single page, I learn the term “Thin Slicing” from Stephan Spencer himself when he talked about the plugin in a session at Pubcon), you cannot choose the other tabs.

The default tab is Pages, and even if you click on the other tabs, nothing happens. The fastest fix I found is simply modify all files of the plugin and replace all occurences of edit.php and change it to tools.php then reupload the file and you are all set.

I am sure an official update will come soon. but if you can’t wait for the update, and you are also not confident with your coding skills to touch anything, you can download a modified version here. I’ll ping this over to Stephan on his twitter so the update comes sooner hopefully. It is not a hard fix anyway, i’m sure the official update will come very soon.

If you are the type of person that is taking a close watch on the number of outbound links you have Firefox Addon LinkCounter is very useful as it shows you the total number of links, a breakdown of these if they are internal within the same site or external going to other sites, and it has the option for you to copy them all if you need to paste them in a separate document.

Unfortunately, this plugin by Tito has long stopped development.

If you liked this plugin and is already running Firefox 3, you may not even find an old version download link on the official Mozilla page. Anyway here is a modified LinkCounter.

Yahoo CAPTCHA Code Cracker

Reported by Slightly Shady SEO: Russian crackers found a way to crack Yahoo CAPTCHA. Although he mentioned it, he does not want to try it out as he mentions on his blog post:

I have 2 rules for software. I don’t download odd binaries from Blackhats, and I don’t download anything from russians. Especially russian security experts who operate under pseudonyms.

The crack is found here. So far I see no good use for this. All I see is a bad use for it. Passing CAPTCHA always means some automated form submission in a large quantity. Although this does not surprise me. Russians are very good programmers, I believe Yandex is almost as sophisticated as todays modern search engines which is why Google is not popular in Russia. And passing CAPTCHA is already something old that XRumer.com has been doing for years already in their automated forum poster. I wonder if anyone has plans to use this in SEO contest like SEOContest2008 or in Yicrosoft Directory?
